Clemson is still the unanimous choice as number one in the NCAA, but the teams below them, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide, are starting to show big signs of improvement. The regular season in college football has come to an end for some teams already, and that means that the bowl selection process is about to begin. As of right now, it looks like the Clemson Tigers will be going up against Alabama in the Bowl Championship, but this is still to be finalized. Other contenders for the BCS include Oklahoma and Iowa. As the bowl season gets rolling, having a good look at the top contenders will help you to formulate a better roster for your daily fantasy sports site of choice.
Clemson Tigers
The Tigers are number one in the nation, but there are weaknesses in their game, especially considering that their latest game was a lot closer than it should have been against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Clemson won, 32-37, but South Carolina was only 3-8 before this game. Clemson’s strength is not their defense, but rather their offense. Starting quarterback Deshaun Watson has a completion rate of up over 70 percent, which is a phenomenal number. His main target, wide receiver Artavis Scott, has 709 yards this season. However, the real strength at Clemson is running back Wayne Gallman. He has 1,145 yards this season, or 104.1 per game. He’s the best choice for your fantasy team if you decide to use a Clemson player for your roster during the bowl season.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama is not number one right now because they do not have a perfect record. However, they have strong momentum on their side, and might be better than Clemson right now. Their QB, Jake Coker, has over 2,000 yards passing and a completion rate of 65.4 percent. His lower rate than Watson’s has hurt his popularity, but he throws more quality passes overall. The Crimson Tide has a better set of receivers than Clemson, and Coker is able to create more yards per reception as a result. Coker is a top daily fantasy pick, as is receiver Calvin Ridley. For rushing, Derrick Henry doesn’t have the same kind of numbers as Gallman, but could be a good choice if you are looking for someone a little cheaper.
Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma just moved into the number three slot as they have been very impressive lately. Like Alabama, they have a loss on their record, but they might be better than Clemson right now, too. QB Baker Mayfield is one of the best QBs in all of the NCAA right now. He’s thrown 35 touchdowns, and has a completion rate of over 68 percent. He’s averaging almost 10 yards per attempt, including the 31 percent of throws that are incomplete, which says a lot about his offensive team. WR Sterling Shepard has over 1,200 yards in receptions, making him one of the best WRs in the NCAA, too. Shepard will be an expensive addition to your fantasy roster, but definitely worth picking up if you can afford the price.
Iowa Hawkeyes
Like Oklahoma, this team has had a ton of momentum in the latter part of their season. Their QB, C.J. Beathard, is good, but not the greatest fantasy choice. His 60.7 accuracy rating is too low to give him a solid fantasy footing. However, the Hawkeyes have a good defense, and their top three running backs are all good choices on a roster that is looking for quality, but low prices. Even their number three rusher, Akrum Wadley, has a good fantasy value and could be a good number two slot on almost any roster.
